Leo Zurovac, 11, became the youngest player to win the annual Sungura Cup golf tournament in the final at Vet Lab Sports Club’s par-72 course.

Playing off handicap 23, Zurovac first beat B. Sivadas 5-4 and Charles Kamunge 1-up to book a semi-final date with Akshay Haria whom he also beat 1-up to advance.

In the final, Zurovac went neck-to-neck with David Kabage before overpowering his opponent at the 16th hole with a 3-2 victory. In the third and fourth-place play-off, Akshay Haria beat Gregory Mwenda 5-3 to finish third.

R.B. Shah (45 points) won the subsidiary event, while Jane Mwangi was the lady winner on 75 nett.

At Muthaiga, Patrick Mokaya combined 21 and 20 points for a total of 41 to win the Abdallah Bekah Memorial golf tournament sponsored by Sedgwick Kenya Insurance Brokers.

F.M. Mungai (39 points) was second after beating Umang Soni on countback.

Evans Vitisia, playing off handicap one, fired 19 and 18 for 37 to take the fourth prize, with handicap eight Agnes Wanjiru claiming the ladies’ title on 35 points.

CAPTAIN'S PRIZE

Jane Babsa Nzibo was second on 33 points after beating Rose Koome on countback.

The juniors’ prize went to Emir Hussein with 34 points while Catherine Kimathi was the lady guest winner with 33 points. Men’s guest winner was Anthony Mutugi with 36 points. The staff prize went to J.K Muchai who collected 29 points.

At Nyali, Peter Maina won the Captain’s Prize with a differential of 35 points, beating Zafar Imtiaz by a point while Martin Ombura was third on 38 after a countback with Jyoti Doshi.

Gabriel Gakuo won the first round on nett 69 ahead of Sal Davis (72).

Winning the second was John Stokes with 42 points. Stokes won by two points from D.J. Maru, while Lilian Krijnen was the best lady with 37 points. She won by two points from Terry Odoo and Nila Devani on 35 points.

Alan Marshall was the best senior player on 50 points, while Duncan Githere (42) won the junior title. John Timbe was the best caddie with 36 points.
